Dining With the Sophisticated Ladies

Eatonville Restaurant serves up sophisticated storytelling and good food

If you’re in the mood for stories about “high society” and some good family-style food, check out the latest offering from Eatonville Restaurant’s Food and Folklore dinner series. This month, Eatonville teams up with Arena Stage for a special tribute to the “Sophisticated Ladies” of the Harlem Renaissance.

The featured dinner speaker will be A’Lelia Bundles, an Emmy Award winning producer and former network TV news executive. Bundles is the great-granddaughter of Madam C.J. Walker, and author of the bestselling book, “On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker.” Bundles is currently working on a biography of her great-grandmother and namesake, Al’Lelia Walker, a central figure of the Renaissance.

Joining Bundles will be cast members from Arena Stage’s current production of “Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Ladies.” The evening will include a presentation about the “high society” of the Renaissance, followed by a mouth-watering meal that might have been served in the infamous Renaissance salons.

To give you a taste of the evening, here’s the menu, compliments of Eatonville’s executive chef Rusty Holman: Old Bay poached shrimp with spicy cocktail sauce, crab fritters with remoulade, marinated tomatoes and lima bean puree on toasted baguette, southern fried chicken, catfish strips, green beans and caramelized onions, three-cheese mac and cheese, braised collard greens, cucumber and tomato salad, red bliss potato salad, and banana pudding. Hungry yet?

The evening will cost you $45. Reservations are required and space is limited. For more information, call 202-332-6432 or email foodandfolklore@eatonvillerestaurant.com.
