Fight off your end-of-summer blues at Columbia Heights Day (10 a.m.-6 p.m.). The festival, held on Aug. 28, will include live music, family activities, artists, food and fun at Harriet Tubman Elementary Field (11th and Kenyon Streets N.W.).
Expect two stages of live music and dance performances, displays from local artists and plenty of local eats. Those who plan on pigging out can kick-start their metabolisms and stretch their stomachs with morning yoga.
The younger set can enjoy a kids' zone and a petting zoo. But activities are not exclusive to D.C.'s two-legged residents -- prep your fur kid for the pet parade.
This year, you can also find something a bit more quaint: Columbia Heights Day is hosting the D.C. "State" Fair. A group of local bloggers are organizing competitions like Tastiest Tomato, Best Home-Made Pie and a photography contest.
