Best In Show

The National Dog Show in Philadelphia

The best doggone dog in the world is definitely your dog.  But today all eyes were on Sadie an adorable Scottish terrier who took Best In Show at the National Dog Show hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia.

Sadie already had 100  Best in Show wins under her belt. This put her over at win number 101. The $6,000 prize is not too shabby for a day's work.  That ought to get her some of those expensive boutique doggie biscuits.

She hails from Michigan so she had a bit of a ride to Philly.  Bet it was in high style.

Over 150 breeds competed and more than 1400 dogs strutted their stuff in front of  the judge, a packed crowd and 20 million of us who tuned in. If you were cooking, eating or watching football and missed it.  Here are the winners of each group:

  • Sporting Group: Labrador Retriever
  • Working Group: Doberman Pinscher
  • Terrier Group: Scottish Terrier
  • Hound Group: Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen
  • Herding Group: Bearded Collie
  • Non Sporting Group: Bulldog
  • Toy Group: Minature Pinscher

Our hometown hero is Roy, the bearded collie who won the Herding Group.  His owner is Ellen Charles, of D.C.

Three new breeds are now elibible for competition: Pyrenean shepherd, Irish red and white setter, and Norwegian buhund.
