Bernadette Peters to Star in D.C. “Follies” Revival

The Kennedy Center in Washington has cast Bernadette Peters to star in its revival of Stephen Sondheim's "Follies" next year.

The center announced Wednesday that the two-time Tony Award winner would join its production. The show is slated to run May 7 through June 5, 2011.

Peters currently is starring in the Broadway revival of Sondheim's "A Little Night Music."

The original Broadway production of "Follies" opened in 1971. It won seven Tony Awards, including best score. It's the story of a reunion of former showgirls on the eve of their theater's demolition.

The Kennedy Center production will replicate the original with a full, 28-piece orchestra. The $6 million show will be among its most expensive theater productions.
