At first glance, Atomic Billiards doesn’t look like anything special. Located in the basement level of a building on Connecticut Avenue, the billiards joint is reminiscent of a neighborhood game room.
However, after spending some time in this small, but cozy futuristic-themed bar, you’ll realize it’s a rare find in Northwest DC. The décor also adds to the quirky atmosphere.
On any given night, you can find a laid back crowd of twenty-somethings and neighborhood professionals. In fact this is probably one of the best aspects of the bar considering the pretentious nature of many area bars.
It’s not uncommon to have to wait for up to an hour for a pool table. However, the standard hourly rate for two players is affordable at $12 to $14.
Drinks are reasonably priced for the District with prices ranging from $3 to $8 each. A sizable selection of beers, from Dogfish Head to Yuengling, is available on tap and there is a full service bar. The bar doesn’t offer food, but customers are allowed to bring dinner from any of the surrounding restaurants.
The friendly and attentive bartenders help make Atomic impossible to dislike. The service is always great regardless of how crowded the bar gets.
In addition to pool, Atomic also features a jukebox, shuffleboard tables, dart boards, and board games that can be borrowed and played at the bar.
Be sure to take advantage of happy hour specials which occur Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Atomic Billiards is conveniently located one block from the Cleveland Park Metro stop.
