A Mall on the Mall

Art Attack at the Smithsonian Craft Show

Look, we know you probably brought home some pretty awesome pipe-cleaner art from kindergarten back in the day. Well, shucks, good for you! In the meantime, you might have let those crafty skills wither, but that just means you can pay someone else to be creative instead. Problem solved!

The Smithsonian Craft Show gets underway today at the National Building Museum (401 F St. N.W.). More than a hundred artists will display and sell ceramics, jewelry, furniture, clothing and more. Special events include frequent demos of artistic techniques, including glass blowing and creating wheel-thrown pottery. A juried art show will display work by emerging artists from the Corcoran College of Art + Design. You can also bid on select items via online auction.

Admission to the show is $12 in advance or $15 at the door. It's open Thurs.-Fri. 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sat. 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sun. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Bad news, though: You probably won't find any pipe-cleaner art there.
