400+ Artists Headed to Yuppie Playground

Underground art comes to Crystal City. Yes, really.

Kelly Vivanco, we might just be in love with you.

There's the highbrow (Picasso), the lowbrow (dogs playing poker) and the... New Brow? Yes, indeedy. And 400+ underground artists are set to invade -- wait for it, waaaait for it -- Crystal City.

Yes, Crystal City, home to Legal Seafoods, Ruby Tuesdays and more Marriotts than you can shake a stick at. Not that you'd really want to shake a stick at Marriotts, but you know what we mean.

So, right, Crystal City doesn't exactly seem like the natural choice to house an army of underground artists, but sure enough, they're taking over an empty office building (thanks, recession!). And they're coming with their comic book art, graffiti, skate culture and ironic paintings.

The art show, called G-40: The Summit, calls itself an "artistic interpretation of the G-20 political summit." Each floor of the building will have a regional theme, including a New York gallery and a D.C. one -- naturally.

The free show, curated by Art Whino, will run March 3-27 at 223 23rd St., Arlington, Va., featuring work from artists including Kelly Vivanco (work pictured). A public preview with live painting kicks off the whole thing on March 3, 5-10 p.m. It's closed Mondays and Tuesday; check other hours here.

And we'll meet you near the T.G.I. Friday's.
