It's become a tasty Washington tradition: The 31st Annual Chili Cookoff at the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds.
Thousands showed up to taste secret recipes from the Metro area's 101 top chili chefs. Celebrity judges like Redskin Chris Cooley had an enviable job: taste as many different kinds of chili as possible and pick their favorites. It was a hard job but someone had to do it.
Area musicians donated their talents throughout the day to keep the crowd lively. And the throngs just kept on coming. What is it about a spring day and dozens of different chili dishes to keep the crowds in a frenzy?
And it's all for a good cause. Radio Station DC101 hosted the event. The proceeds go to the National Kidney Foundation. This is a an especialy meaningful cause in our region, as the Washington area leads the nation in kidney disease with more than 700,000 affected.
