They'll Write a Musical About Anything These Days

Yes, "Kickball, a Musical" is real, and it's in Arlington

DC is about three things: The federal government, rush hour traffic, and adults playing kickball (#102 on the Stuff White People Like list). It's pretty much a given that the moment your U-Haul meets the Beltway, hungover kickballers leap from the bushes, inviting you to revive your inner child (except with the drinking of copious amounts of beer at Kelly's Irish Times afterward).

And although a musical about the federal government or rush-hour traffic would be really, really depressing, we've now got the favorite pastime of every post-college DC resident parading as a musical.

Through April 4, "Kickball, the Musical" (what, you thought we were making that up?) is at Gunston Theatre (2700 South Lang St., Arlington). Tickets are $10, which is probably what a few beers at Kelly's will run you anyway. And we're betting the floor at the theater isn't sticky, so that's a step up.

As for the actual plot of this theatrical endeavor: Um. Would you believe it's a "hilarious tale of a down-on-their-luck kickball team and its madcap road trip to a tournament"? Actually, you probably would. Fine. Even so: It's a musical. About kickball. That's... really all we've got.
