Pack Up the Car, Kids!

We're goin' to Maryland!

The 29th Annual Washington Folk Festival is this weekend in Glen Echo, MD. And you know what that means! Wait, no, we didn’t either. So we hit up Wikipedia (as usual), only to become more confused. It says that folk stuff refers to traditional, everyday people stuff. Wouldn’t that mean that each day is its own folk festival?

Regardless, the two-day festival will feature folk dancing, singing performances, storytelling and crafts representing folk cultures from around the world. Performers will include the Capitol Assets, Patuxent Partners and Irish Inn Mates. (Sounds a bit like the lineup of one of those channels that's all scrambled up, no? But that's neither here nor there.)

On to more wholesome activities: Shop for tie-dyed and crocheted clothes, origami jewelry, paintings and various glass, silver and wood crafts from the folk art exhibitors. This is good news. We've always wanted a crocheted poncho.

There will also be workshops available for those looking to add a little "tradition" to their dance floor moves.

The festival runs Saturday and Sunday from noon until 7p.m. in rehabbed trolley park Glen Echo Park, and is free to the public. And since the weather looks nice (finally), swing by and learn more about folk culture. We know we need to.
