Kings Dominion Adds First Ferris Wheel to Its Lineup

2 rides from an old amusement park in Ohio will be moved to Kings Dominion

Kings Dominion is adding a Ferris wheel to its lineup, the first since the Virginia theme park opened in 1975.

Kings Dominion is refurbishing the 110-foot-tall Americana, which formerly was at Geauga Lake, a former amusement park near Aurora, Ohio, that now operates as a water park. Both parks are owned by Ohio-based Cedar Fair Entertainment Co.

Kings Dominion also is recycling another ride from Geauga Lake, a swinging pendulum called El Dorado. The El Dorado carries up to 40 riders in an oversized 1950s-style convertible.

Park spokesman John Pagel says the new rides give Kings Dominion a good mix.

The northern Hanover County park opens April 4.
