Chanukah on the Ellipse: Celebrate the eight-day Jewish holiday at the National Lighting Ceremony. It takes place on Dec. 21 at 4 p.m. right next to the Christmas tree on the Ellipse. Tickets are free but required. For more information please call 202-332-5600 or visit www.nationalmenorah.org.

Christmas on the Potomac: Gaylord National Hotel and Resort is throwing together a 37-day holiday celebration from Nov. 24 through Dec. 30. This one-of-a kind celebration features a Tree of Light, which is the 60-foot centerpiece of the celebration, light-cicles and the Potomac Express Train Village. Don't miss the Voices of Gaylord National Christmas Show or have brunch with Mrs. Claus. Holiday Lobbying at the Willard: Enjoy free live music performances from top choral and music ensembles from the D.C. area at the Willard Hotel. The performances take place Monday through Saturday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. throughout December in the hotel's lobby. National Christmas Tree at the Ellipse: Though tickets have already been passed out to watch the lighting of the tree, you can still visit the national Christmas tree throughout the holiday season. Each night in December, various music performers will be held around the tree.

The National Harbor is putting together a host of events for the holiday season:

Holiday Tree Light Show: This light show begins every night a half hour after sunset until 10 p.m. at the Waterfront Plaza on National Plaza. It takes place throughout the holiday season.

The Outdoor Holiday Market also takes place on the Waterfront Plaza on Saturdays and Sundays until Dec. 21. Browse through holiday knick-knacks while sipping on a cup of hot chocolate or apple cider. The Market is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Waterskiing Santa Claus: See Santa like you've never seen him before on Christmas Eve-- waterskiing on the Potomac! The show starts at 1 p.m. at the National Harbor Waterfront.

The Nutcracker at the Kennedy Center: Enjoy this holiday classic at the Kennedy Center playing from Dec. 11 to Dec. 14. Go to the website for ticket information at: http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/ballet/.

Palace of Wonders: Have a very merry odd Christmas! The Palace of Wonders is open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at 7 p.m. There is no cover and drinks all night. Palace of Wonders is located on 1210 H St., NE. Call 202-398-7469.

ZooLights at the National Zoo: It’s the National Zoo’s annual winter tradition with tons of lighted animal displays and live entertainment. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Zoo Lights is open from Nov. 28 through Dec. 14, Friday through Sunday nights, and every night from Dec. 18 through Dec. 30 excluding Dec. 24 and 25. Sculpture Garden Ice-Skating Rink National Gallery of Art. Take the family ice-skating out on the rink at the National Gallery of Art. The skating rink is open from mid Nov. to mid March 2009. See the website at http://www.nga.gov/ginfo/skating.shtm for more information.

Norwegian Christmas at Union Station. There’s tons of events for everyone to enjoy celebrating the Norwegian culture! The Norwegian Christmas goes from Nov. 25 to Dec. 26. Union Station is located at 50 Massachusetts Ave., N.E.

"Reading The Christmas Story In Art" Gallery Talk National Gallery of Art. Join J. Russel Sale for his hour-long gallery talks on the holiday themed paintings in the collection.
