Gwen Ifill Brings a “Breakthough”

The moderator of the now-(in)famous 2008 VP debate will be speaking at the Newseum and signing copies of her new book.

George Clooney's appearance at the Newseum (555 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W.) next Monday has long been sold out. And trust us, we share your pain. But the political-celeb train just keeps on chuggin' through the District (like we'd expect any less).

Gwen Ifill will be stopping by tomorrow to share her views on the changing political landscape. You probably remember that Ifill, of "Washington Week" and "The Newshour With Jim Lehrer," moderated the, um, very illuminating vice-presidential debate between Sen. Joe Biden and Gov. Sarah Palin last October -- so she knows all the right questions to ask.

(Also, Queen Latifah did a killer impersonation of Ifill on "Saturday Night Live," which should count for something.)

After the discussion, Ifill will sign copies of her new book, "The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama." Seating is open to the public and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. It could get crowded, but look on the bright side: It won't be as bad as what the purple ticket-holders faced in the Third Street tunnel on Tuesday.
