Got It Made

DC's Queer Craft Collective gets out and about.

You know how they say there's a greeting card for everything? Like if your dog walker from Idaho gets fired from her day job but is also having a baby? (Actually though, the Dupont CVS is out of that card -- we checked.)

Yeah, well, if there's a greeting card for everyone, maybe there's a meet-up for everyone, too. The Queer Crafter Collective is a new group of, well, exactly what the name says. (We don't want to mis-underestimate your intelligence here.)  The group meets is currently looking for members. You'll get discounts on participation in craft shows, and get to take part in Phasefest, an annual LGBT arts fest. The collective (slogan: Queering Crafts in the Nation's Capital) will also promote your Etsy shop.

If you don't know about Etsy, you're probably not ready for any sort of craft collective, gay OR straight, but, hypothetically speaking, if you DON'T know about it ... Etsy is a Web tool that lets crafty folks set up their own online shops. It's more fun than eBay and less sketchy than Craigslist. Obviously, the focus is much more narrow, but most things you get from Craigslist aren't decorated with miniature owls, now are they? (Educate yourself here as needed.)

DC Queer Crafter MonkeyGrlDuds recycles old clothing to create new designs such as punchy University of Virginia ponchos, while Oh Ginger creates earrings and other baubles from teeny wool pom-poms. Hey, don't knock it til you've tried it.
