Drake's Not So Far Gone … He's Coming to D.C.

Many know him as Jimmy, the talented basketball player and poet who became physically disabled, on the hit teen show "Degrassi: The Next Generation." But this Canadian-born artist is known for more than his skills in front of the camera -- he knows how to rock the mic too.

 

It seems that everywhere you go, you can here someone listening to or talking about one of Drake's songs. The recent increase in Drake-monium has made this young rap phenom a hot commodity across the nation, and in two weeks, the District will be lucky enough to have the hip-hopper make an appearance in the area.

 

On May 16, fans can witness Drake's first performance in D.C. at Love Nightclub. He is sure to perform some of his best hits, from "Ransom" (feat. Lil' Wayne) to "Replacement Girl" that night.

 

Born Aubrey Drake Graham, Drake (his hip-hop alias) has burst onto the scene with a whirlwind of "swagger"-filled lyricism and provocative vocals (hmmm ... what's better than a man who can sing and rap?).  His musical expertise has made him a household name among hip-hop heads and Degrassi fans alike. 

 

With some influence of Lil' Wayne, he's staked his claim in the rap world with an array of mix tapes, including: So Far Gone, Heartbreak Drake,Comeback Season, and Room for Improvement. Songs like "Best I Ever Had" and "Every Girl" spin on the radio, while tunes like "Say What's Real" and "Successful" are in high demand for downloading on people's iPods and CDs.

 

Drake's talents and unique versatility are helping him climb to the top of the charts as he puts his city, Toronto, on the mainstream hip-hop map, where most artists' claim to fame has either been New York, the Dirty South or the West Coast.
