DC Exposed (Gasp! Avert Your Eyes)

Local photographers share their version of the District

It's kinda hard to see what's happening around town when you're stuck in the Metro (damn you, perpetual Red Line delays) and eat at the same Cosi every single day. What else does this town have to offer, aside from constant gridlock (both literal and political)?

This Friday night, the DCist Exposed Photography Show dishes up a slice of local life at the Gallery at Flashpoint (916 G St. N.W.) from 5-8 p.m.

The popular local blog (www.DCist.com) runs the contest each year, culminating in the annual show. This year, staffers sifted through more than 800 images from local amateur photographers to select 45 to display.

From the DCist site: "What made us settle on these 45 images? We chose images that -- as six people familiar with this city -- showed us a unique perspective."

We can't really argue with that statement, with images running the gamut from "Election Eve in Manassas" to "Old Waffle Shop" (mmm, waffles) to the stunning "Mount Pleasant Fire #19" -- yes, it's really a fire, mid-flame, with shards of glass spitting up into the air. Kind of makes us want to check the batteries in our smoke detectors.

By the way, the show is free. Save your money and maybe you can finally eat lunch somewhere else next week.
