What, No Three-Gallon Bucket of Popcorn?

117 Indie Films Show in D.C.

Psst. Stop stalking Angelina downtown. She's filming a movie, she's got six kids, and she's trying to keep the wind from blowing off that terrible blonde wig she's wearing to film "Salt." Yeah, Angie's got other fish to fry. Or international spies to blow up. Either way.

Get your Hollywood kick instead at the DC Independent Film Festival, running through Sunday, March 15. Each night of films has a surprisingly focused theme, such as Disability in Film (Tuesday), and French and Turkish Delights (Wednesday). "The Empty Job" may be especially relevant (and depressing). In a -- we hope -- future dystopia, unemployment has risen to 35 percent. A new government law requires high-salaried people to employ an unemployed person in their house. Of course, thought-provoking hijinks ensue.

Filmmakers will be present at many of the showings, although we can't promise the same for Angelina. See the complete schedule here.

The DC Independent Music Festival will be running concurrently, with performances Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, starting after the films end (between 9 and 9:30 p.m.) at the Thunder Grill, upstairs from the Phoenix Theatres in Union Station.
