Baltimore Becoming Cruise Ship Central

More year-round cruises from Baltimore planned

BALTIMORE -- Forget Florida.  Baltimore is the new destination for boarding cruise ships.

Royal Caribbean Cruises will offer year-round cruises from the Port of Baltimore this year, the second line to do so.

The Maryland Port Administration said Royal Caribbean will extend its sailing through April 2010. Last year, Carnival announced that it would be the first company to cruise year-round from the South Locust Point terminal.

The MPA anticipates 79 sailings from the port this year, far more than the 27 in 2008. With Royal Caribbean's announcement, the number of cruises will increase to 92 in 2010.

Royal Caribbean also says it would bring a bigger ship to Baltimore.
