Baby Gorilla Now “Little Lady”

More than 10,000 people voted for Kibibi

For those worried that Kibibi would end up hanging with Britney Spears or La Lohan, have no fear.

The voting public spoke (all 10,000 of you, apparently) and the National Zoo dubbed its two-month old baby female gorilla "little lady," as her name translates in Swahili, We Love DC reported.

More than 10,000 people voted on three names for the gorilla, including Kipenzi (kee-PENZ-zee) or "loved one" and Keyah (KAY-yah), aka "good health."

Kibibi (kee-BEE-bee) was born at the zoo on Jan. 10 to 26-year-old female Mandara and 16-year-old Baraka.   She now has four teeth, has been riding increasingly on Mandara’s back and shows an interest in her environment, especially in food given to Mandara, the zoo said in a press release.

In the coming weeks, she is expected to begin exploring her surroundings and manipulating objects.   But with a name like Kibibi, we're sure she won't be swinging over a fence for the nightlife in Adams Morgan anytime soon.
