Voter Registration Application Mailed to Dead Dog

Dog's owner laughed at mixup

A man in southwestern Virginia received a voter registration application in the mail last week. But here’s the problem: It was addressed to the family's dog, which died two years ago.

Tim Morris of Bedford County said the document asked "Mo Morris" to register to vote. The dog's name was Mozart.

"I opened it up and looked at it and I just laughed. I thought it was a joke at first and it turns out it's real," Tim Morris told a reporter.

The family does not know how it happened, but the form was reportedly from the Voter Participation Center, a private, nonprofit group that works to get people registered to vote.

The organization purchases mailing lists from vendors and admits that sometimes there are mixups.
