Spike in Burglaries in Falls Church Area

Police telling people in Northern Virginia to stay on alert, where they have seen a spike in burglaries.

Investigators in Falls Church and Arlington are working together to solve ten home break-ins.

They are occurring in the Broadmont neighborhood in Falls Church and the East Falls Church area in Arlington.

Most of these crimes took place at night, between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m.

Suspects gained access to the homes either through unlocked doors or by kicking down entrances with deadbolts.  Police said laptops, iPods, bank checks, and a handgun were taken in the string of burglaries.

Investigators said the thieves have become more brazen, striking houses with security systems, and on one occasion, robbing a house while the residents were home.

Anyone with information concerning these burglaries or anyone seeing anything or anyone suspicious is asked to immediately contact the City of Falls Church Police Emergency Communications Center at 703-241-5050 or call 911 if they see a burglary in progress.
