Roddenberrys to Be Shot Into Space

Space: it really is the final frontier for Star Trek creator Gene Rodenberry.

Rodenberry, who died in 1991 and his wife, Majel Barrett Roddenberry, who died on Dec. 18, 2008 will spend eternity sealed in a specially made space capsules rocketing toward infinity.

The capsules, made by the company Celestis, which specializes in "memorial spaceflights", are designed to withstand the rigors of space travel and will include digitized messages from fans of the sci-fi stalwart.

Portions of Rodenberry's remains were launched into orbit a decade ago. Since then, more than 300 people's cremated remains have taken flight with Celestis, including former "Trek" actor James Doohan.

Celestis spokeswoman, Susan Schonfeld said the Trekie couple's remains will be cleared for takeoff in 2010.
