Cat Saves Wis. Woman's Life

Doctors say she could have died if the cat hadn't been there

A newly adopted pet cat is being credited with saving the life of its owner, the Green Bay Press Gazette reported.

Amy Jung and her son Ethan impulsively adopted a 21-pound orange-and-white cat named Pudding and his friend Wimsy during a Feb. 8 visit to The Humane Society. Hours after they returned to Jungs' home in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Jung, who has had diabetes since childhood, started having a diabetic seizure in her sleep.

That’s when Pudding came to the rescue. The cat sat on Jung’s chest and bumped and bit her face in an effort to wake her.

"Anything he could to pull me out of it (the seizure)," she said.

Finally, she regained consciousness and stopped convulsing long enough to call her son, Ethan. When Ethan didn’t hear her calls, Pudding ran into his room and jumped on the bed until he woke up and called for help.

Jung and her doctors believe she could have died if Pudding hadn’t taken action.

She is now registering the quick-thinking cat as a therapy animal. Pudding has been trained to sit by Jung's feet and meow when he senses that her blood sugar is low.

"If something or someone hadn't pulled me out of that, I wouldn't be here," she said.
