Google Pays Homage to Zipper's Inventor

Newest doodle celebrates the "hookless no. 2"

The Swedish-American who thought up and developed the zipper was born on this date in 1880 -- and Google is giving him an HTML 5 homage.

The newest doodle celebrates the "hookless no. 2," as it was known until B.F. Goodrich gave it the more memorable "zipper" moniker.

The Google logo is "stitched" on the page and a flick of the mouse unzips it, revealing a pre-populated search result page with as much information on Gideon Sundback as one would need.

Ubiquitous on clothing now, the zipper was first used on footwear and tobacco pouches (really?).
