Ford Sells Kit to Build All-New '65 Mustang

Classic car is a favorite of restoration mavens

The 1965 Ford Mustang is born again.

The cars have long been a favorite for collectors to restore, but the automaker is now working with a Pennsylvania company to sell a brand new, factory-approved body of the classic car. Since Ford already sells a full catalog of parts for the the original cars, an enthusiast can build a brand new car from the ground up. That should be welcome news to fas who have long scoured junkyards looking for rusted hulks of the vintage pony cars.

“The new body shell is made of virgin metal and uses modern welding techniques,” Dennis Mondrach, Ford Restoration Parts licensing manager, told The DetroitBureau.com. “It comes rustproofed, and after final adjustment and finish preparation of the body panels, it is ready for painting and final assembly.”

The body, which costs $15,000, includes the trunk lid and doors. The hood and fenders are sold separately.

A restorer with the new body can recreate the car by installing an old one's engine and transmission, electric systems and other parts into the new body or by ordering all the replacement parts from Ford’s restoration catalogue, at fordrestorationparts.com.
