D.C. Could Be Google Guinea Pig

Council member wants to test high-speed network here

Forget high-speed. It’s more like light-speed. According to local blog Susie's Budget and Policy Corner, D.C. Councilmember Mary Cheh is pushing for Google to bring a new pilot program to the District.

Google recently announced plans to test out a new fiber-optic network. It would allow users to download at speeds more than 100 times faster than most connections.

The company is taking requests for communities that are interested in testing the high-speed networks. They’ll announce which areas they’ve chosen later this year.

Cheh is encouraging people to sign an online petition to bring the test network to D.C. If you’re interested, you can sign up here.
