Wizards Road Warriors in First-Round Upset of Bulls

The Washington Wizards clinched a trip to the second round after disposing of the Chicago Bulls in five games, just their third playoff series victory since 1982.

Perhaps most impressive about their five-game victory was that they won all three games on the road.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, the Wizards clinched a playoff series on the road for the first time since winning the NBA Finals in Game 7 against the Seattle SuperSonics in 1978. It was the longest drought of its kind in the Association before Wednesday.

Also, the Wizards became the fourth team seeded fifth or lower to win three road games in one playoff series since the inception of the current format in 1984.

Not bad for a team that won 22 road games this season after winning 19 combined from 2010-11 to 2012-13.

Washington now awaits the winner of the Indiana Pacers/Atlanta Hawks series. The eighth-seeded Hawks have a 3-2 series lead with Game 6 Thursday in Atlanta. The Pacers are 0-10 all-time in series when they trail 3-2, so the Wizards may actually receive home-court advantage in the second round.
