Day 7 was an eventful day for Team USA with the start of track and field and plenty of elimination matches to play.

USWNT Beats Netherlands in Penalty Kicks, Moves To Semifinal
The United States went 4-4 in penalty kicks to beat the Netherlands and move on to the semifinal against Canada. Megan Rapinoe, Christen Press, Alex Morgan and Rose Lavelle score, and Alyssa Naeher made two saves in the shoot-out. Sam Mewis and Lynn Williams scored in regulation.

The United States had three goals called back for offsides over the course of regulation and two overtime periods. They will face Canada in the semifinal on Monday, August 2, starting at 4 a.m. ET.
U.S. Men's and Women's 4x100m Relay Teams Advance to Swim Finals
Team USA got to where it wanted to be in the 4x100m relay but the men's side gave fans a lot more stress than their female counterparts who cruised to a second-place finish behind Canada in the swimming heats on Friday morning.

Team USA Wins Appeal, Not Disqualified From Mixed 4x400m Relay
The U.S. team was disqualified in the mixed 4x400m relay on Day 1 of track competition. They were docked for a handoff outside of the takeoff zone between Elija Godwin and Lynna Irby.
Team USA appealed the decision though and has since won that appeal. The United States will compete in Saturday's 4x400 mixed relay event.
A'ja Wilson Helps U.S. Women's Basketball Team Defeat Japan
The U.S. Women's Basketball Team improved to 2-0 in group play with a 86-69 win over Japan.
After a slow start defensively in the opening quarter, the strong defense the U.S. displayed in the second continued after halftime. Nursing a five-point lead with 4:27 remaining in the third, Team USA didn't allow a field goal for the remainder of the quarter while increaing its lead to 65-53.
The lead continued to grow in the fourth quarter, with a putback by Breanna Stewart capping a 10-0 run that gave the U.S. its largest lead at 84-64.
The U.S. had five players finish in double figures, led by A'ja Wilson, who had 20 points and 10 rebounds for her second-straight double-double. Breanna Stewart added 15 points and 13 rebounds.

Gibb, Bourne Drop Final Match of Group Play
Jacob Gibb and Tri Bourne lost in straight sets to Qatar's Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan in their final match of group play.
They will finish in second in their group behind Younousse and Tijan, but the top two ranked teams from each group advance to the Round of 16.
Team USA Knocks Off Israel in Baseball
Tyler Austin’s three-RBI night led the United States baseball team to its first win in Tokyo.
Team USA won its 2021 Olympic debut 8-1 knocking off Israel.
Joe Ryan got the win, pitching six innings and giving up only one run.
Uganda Makes History With First-Ever 10k Medals
Ethiopia's Selemon Barega won gold, but silver and bronze go to Uganda's Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo in a historic race for the country.
The race came down to the final 800m, where Cheptegei and Kiplimo accelerated past Ethiopia's Berihu Aregawi and Canada's Mohammed Ahmed to finish on the podium.
American Grant Fisher finished in fifth with a time of 27:46.39.
Zverev Ends Djokovic's Quest for Golden Slam
Novak Djokovic lost in the semifinals to German Alexander Zverev and will miss out on the chance at a golden slam.
Djokovic was attempting to be the first man and second tennis player after Steffi Graf to win all four majors and an Olympic gold medal in a single year.
He dominated the first set, winning 6-1, before losing the second and third sets for a final score of 1-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Zverev will move on to the finals where he will face ROC's Karen Khachanov for a gold medal.
Maggie Steffens Makes History as U.S. Women’s Water Polo Team Rebounds
Maggie Steffens has now scored more goals than any Olympian in women's water polo history.
Steffens, a two-time gold medalist playing in her third Games, scored four goals in the United States' 18-5 win over the ROC on Thursday, including the 48th of her career to become the sport's all-time leading scorer. She surpassed Italy's Tania Di Mario.
After suffering its first loss in 13 years, the U.S. used the next game to take out some frustration.
Team USA rebounded from Wednesday’s stunning 10-9 loss to Hungary – its first since 2008 – by dominating the ROC in the lopsided win. The U.S., the gold medal favorite, closed out pool play with a 3-1 record.
Stephania Haralabidis also had four goals in the win.
U.S. Women's Rugby Eliminated in Quarterfinals
Great Britain beat the United States 21-12 in the quarterfinal round of women's rugby.
The U.S. fought back from being down 21-0. Kristi Kirshe scored a try with 2:30 left in the match, but the U.S. missed the conversion.
Naya Tapper scored again at the buzzer, but the U.S. suffered their second-straight Olympic quarterfinal exit.
Korean San An Wins Epic Archery Gold
San An defeated Elena Osipova to win the women's individual archery final in a one-arrow shoot-off.
Osipova was in the lead 5 sets to 3, but An forced a shoot-off by winning the fourth set 29-27.
With only one arrow to shoot, An nailed a 10, and Osipova shot an 8.
Schauffele Tops Leaderboard As Golf is Suspended Due to Weather
A strong second round showing saw USA's Xander Schauffele shoot up the leaderboard and into first place in men's golf, overtaking Mexico's Carlos Ortiz.
Schauffele took a one-stroke lead at 11-under after a second-round 63. The round was hampered by repeated weather delays and eventually suspended. The second round will resume Saturday morning.
Hernandez, Palmer Qualify for 3m Springboard Diving Semifinals
Hailey Hernandez and Krysta Palmer both finished in the top 18 in women's 3m springboard diving prelims and will move on to the semifinals.
Hernandez's score of 309.55 put her in sixth place, while Palmer's 279.10 left her in 15th.
The semifinal will take place on Saturday, July 31 beginning at 2 a.m. ET, and the top 12 will qualify for the finals.
United States’ Smolen Wins Bronze in K-1 Slalom
The United States Michal Smolen took bronze in the men’s K-1 Kayak Slalom.
Smolen, in his Olympic debut, finished 1.82 seconds behind Jiri Prskavec of the Czech Republic, who won gold with a time of 94.29. Boris Neveu of France took silver, finishing 0.57 seconds behind Prskavec.
Zhu Wins Gold in Trampoline; United States’ Ahsinger Finishes Sixth
China took home gold and silver in Trampoline.
Xueying Zhu won the event with a score of 56.635 and Lingling Liu took second with a 56.350. Bryony Page of Great Britain took bronze with a 55.735.
The United States’ Nicole Ahsinger came in sixth with a score of 54.350
ROC’s Vitalina Batsarashkina Wins Shootoff to Take Gold in 25m Pistol
ROC shooter Vitalina Batsarashkina is now a two-time gold medal winner at the Tokyo Olympics.
Batsarashkina, who won gold in the 10m air pistol and also took silver in the 10m mixed team air pistol, claimed her second gold medal of the Games on Thursday by defeating Korea's Kim Minjung 4-1 in a shootoff in women's 25m pistol. Batsarashkina and Minjung had tied with 38 points.
Xiao Jiaruxuan of China took bronze with 29 points.
Simone Biles Provides Update on Her Status Via Instagram
Simone Biles took to Instagram on Thursday to discuss her experience with “twisties.”
Biles, who withdrew from the Olympics team final and individual all-around, posted videos practicing twists and also answered questions about her status, saying in one written response it typically takes her two or more weeks to overcome twisties.
"For anyone saying I quit, I didn’t quit … my mind & body are simply not in sync,” Biles wrote. “I don’t think you realize how dangerous this is on hard/competition surface,” Biles continued. “Nor do I have to explain why I put health first … Physical health is mental health.”
Team USA Gives Update on Connor Fields Following BMX Crash
Connor Fields, Team USA's reigning gold medalist in BMX racing, was carried off on a stretcher following a three-bike crash in the third semifinal heat on Thursday. Fields was attended to by medical personnel before being taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Fields qualified for the final but was unable to race. A Team USA doctor confirmed early Friday that Fields was awake and awaiting further evaluation.
U.S. Men's Volleyball Team Loses to Brazil
The United States men's indoor volleyball team fell to Brazil in four sets early Friday morning.
Team USA took the lead after an intense first frame, winning 32-30. They then fell in the next three sets 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20.
Next up for the U.S. is Argentina on Sunday at 8:45 a.m. ET.
Alise Willoughby Doesn't Qualify for BMX Racing Finals
Three-time Olympian Alise Willoughby surprisingly did not advance to the finals in women's BMX racing after crashing in two of the three semifinal runs on Thursday night.
Willoughby, the American silver medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, was a favorite to reach the podium again in Tokyo.
The United States' only chance to medal then fell on Felicia Stancil, who finished in fourth place.
Michael Andrew Misses Podium in Men's 200m Individual Medley
A swimmer besides Michael Phelps will stand at the top of the men's 200m individual medley podium for the first time since the 2000 Sydney Olympics, but it won't be American Michael Andrew.
China's Wang Shun earned the gold medal in Thursday's final, Great Britain's Duncan Scott won silver and Switzerland's Jeremy Desplanches came in third place for bronze.
Andrew finished in fifth place.
Ryan Murphy Earns Silver Medal in Men's 200m Backstroke
Defending Olympic champion Ryan Murphy came in second to earn a silver medal in the men's 200m backstroke.
Evgeny Rylov of Russian Olympic Committee won the gold medal and Luke Greenbank of Great Britain took home the bronze.
Lilly King and Annie Lazor Medal in Women's 200m Breaststroke Final
American swimmers Lilly King and Annie Lazor finished in second and third in the women's 200m breaststroke final.
South Africa's Tatjana Schoenmaker finished in first place for the gold medal.
Women's Rugby Team USA Beats Australia
The United States women's rugby team closed out pool play with a comeback win over Australia on Thursday night.
The U.S. was losing 12-0 before coming back to win 14-12.
Team USA is now 3-0 in pool play after previously beating China and Japan.
Caeleb Dressel Sets Another Olympic Record
American swimmer Caeleb Dressel set yet another record at the Tokyo Olympics. In the men's 100m butterfly semifinal on Thursday night, Dressel set the event's Olympic record with a time of 49.71.
Dressel won his first solo medal and set the Olympic record in the men's 100m freestyle final yesterday.
United States Finishes Tokyo Olympics Without Rowing Medal
Team USA will not bring home a rowing medal from the Tokyo Games after the men's team missed the podium in the eight final.
New Zealand came in first place to win the gold medal, Germany took home the silver and Great Britain won the bronze. The U.S. finished in fourth place.
The boat included Benjamin Davison, Justin Best, Daniel Miklasevich, Austin Hack, Alexander Richards, Nicholas Mead, John Harrity, Liam Corrigan and Julian Venonsky.
The United States has only finished the Olympics without a rowing medal at the 1908 and 1980 Games -- in both instances, the U.S. had no rowers entered.
Bor Fails to Advance in Steeplechase Event
American Hillary Bor surprisingly did not advance to the final in the men’s 3000m steeplechase after finishing seventh overall at the 2016 Rio Games. His time was 8:19.80 in the third heat, where the runners ran at a much slower pace than their counterparts in the first two heats.
Among the other Americans, Benard Keter advanced after finishing sixth in the second heat with a time of 8:17.31, and Mason Ferlic finished eighth in the first heat.
Team USA Doesn't Medal in Women's Rowing Eight Final
The United States women's rowing eight team missed out on a medal when they placed fourth in the final on Thursday night.
Canada came in first for the gold medal, New Zealand came in second for the silver and China came in third for the bronze.
Team USA's boat was made up of Jessica Thoennes, Charlotte Buck, Gia Doonan, Brooke Mooney, Olivia Coffey, Regina Salmons, Meghan Musnicki, Kristine O'Brien and Katelin Guregian.
The U.S. won the gold medal in the past three Olympics.
Alix Klineman and April Ross Finish Pool Play Undefeated
Americans Alix Klineman and April Ross beat the Netherlands' Sanne Keizer and Madelein Meppelink on Thursday night.
Klineman and Ross fell in the first set 22-20, making it the first frame the pair lost in Tokyo. They then won 21-17 in the second set before finishing with a 15-5 win in the third.
After winning each of their other matches in straight sets, Team USA now ends pool play with a record of 3-0.
Team USA Enters Day 7 With 38 Olympic Medals
As the seventh day of competition begins in Tokyo, the United States medal count stands at 38.
Team USA has earned 14 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze medals at the 2020 Olympics. Behind them sits China with 31 total medals, the ROC with 28, Japan with 25 and Australia with 20.
Track and Field Competition to Begin In Tokyo
Olympic track and field is kicking off at the Tokyo Games, with several qualifying rounds set to get underway tonight at 8 p.m. ET.
There will be plenty to watch tonight, including both the women's 100m and 800m, along with qualification for the men's discus and men's high jump.
The first track and field medal to be awarded is the men’s 10,000m final on Friday.
Someone Not Named Michael Phelps Will Win Men's 200m IM for First Time Since 2000
The gold medal winner of the men's 200m individual medley for the past four Summer Olympics has been Michael Phelps … but that all changes on Thursday night.
For the first time since the 2000 Sydney Olympics, someone else will stand at the top of the men's 200m IM podium.
The final is at 10:16 p.m. ET, and American Michael Andrew has a chance to take over the throne after finishing second during the semifinal heat on Wednesday.
