In perhaps the most exciting Ryan Zimmerman news coming out of spring training, we’ve learned that the Nationals' third baseman has signed on for another year of Geico commercials.
Take that, Gilbert Gottfried.
We haven’t heard much from Zimmerman himself, and the news was announced via his agent's Twitter feed. We weren't aware he was a commercial free agent, but this is clearly a strong signing for Geico.
But the lack of noise from Zimmerman leads us to wonder when he will get with the social media program. Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper, who aren’t even playing with the team, have been tweeting up a storm. On the other hand, we haven't heard a tweet from Zimmerman, who is the face of the Nationals.
As a fan favorite and Nationals team staple, Zimmerman should get on the Twitter train. He doesn’t have to get as deep as Harper, but at least he could remind us of his existence every once in a while.
In the meantime, we have another season of caveman commercials to look forward to. No word yet on whether Jayson Werth will be cast as “Caveman #2.”
