Robert Griffin III To Make NFL Preseason Debut Thursday as Redskins Visit Bills

The pomp and circumstance surrounding Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has been immense. Since being drafted in April, RGIII has been essentially anointed as the savior of a moribund franchise in need of a facelift (though don't tell Griffin that he is the "face" of the franchise).

Finally, after months of anticipation and adulation, Griffin will take the field for the first time Thursday when the Redskins open their 2012 preseason schedule at 7 p.m. against the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Last week, head coach Mike Shanahan outlined his plan to use Griffin during the preseason. According to said plan, Grfffin will likely play the first 12-20 plays of the game Thursday before seeing more time as the preseason progresses.  Joining RGIII at the start of Thursday's game will be running back Evan Royster -- who will split carries with Roy Helu, Jr. -- and possibly tight end-turned-fullback Chris Cooley, who will take snaps at fullback while Darrel Young remains out with a hamstring injury.

Other players ruled out Thursday include running back Tim Hightower (knee), wide receiver Anthony Armstrong (shoulder) and left guard Kory Lichtensteiger (knee).

The Bills are scheduled to play their starters for about 15-18 plays Thursday, including quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and newly-acquired defensive end Mario Williams.

The game can be seen live on NBC4's digital channel, NBC Washington Nonstop -- Comcast 208, Verizon Fios 460, Cox 803, various channels on RCN and over the air on 4.2.

Meanwhile, the game will be blacked out in Buffalo due to low ticket sales, so if you are a 'Skins fan in the area who is not attending/cannot attend the game, I suggest you get in the car.
