Chris Cooley to Return to Redskins

With tight end Fred Davis out for the season with an achilles tendon injury, the Washington Redskins are expected to re-sign former tight end Chris Cooley. Our own Dan Hellie has received confirmation from Cooley that the deal is in progress and he expects to join the team Monday.

Washington released Cooley in August after an eight-year stay that saw him become one of the franchise's most popular players. Cooley fought back tears as he announced the news at an impromptu press conference at Redskins Park.

According to CBS' Jason La Canfora, Cooley has remained in contact with the Redskins, who he remains devoted to despite them letting him go.

In the mean time, Cooley has been working here at NBC4 as an analyst (Hellie tweeted that "The Cooley Report" will continue on Mondays), so on behalf of all of us at WRC, I wish Cooley the best of luck in his future endeavors.

From broadcaster to professional football player. What a story.
