Redskins Spoil Cowboys' Thanksgiving, Hold On For 38-31 Victory

You might be noticing a different smell wafting through your home this Thanksgiving.

It's intoxicating, but it's not the stench of your drunk uncle passed out on the couch with his belt undone. It's sweet, but it's not the pumpkin pie baking in the oven. No, that smell ... that smell is victory.

Robert Griffin III did something that Jim Ninowski, Billy Kilmer, Joe Theismann, Mark Rypien, Gus Frerotte and Danny Wuerffel could never do (what a list that is, right?): defeat the Cowboys in Dallas on Thanksgiving.

This year, the Redskins spoiled Thanksgiving for the Cowboys as they held on for a 38-31 victory.

In his first trip back to Texas as a professional, Griffin completed 20 of his 28 pass attempts for 311 yards and four touchdowns. Washington jumped out to a 28-3 lead, but Dallas scored 18 of the next 25 points to cut its deficit to 35-28 with less than 10 minutes remaining.

The Redskins, however, took five minutes off the clock on the ensuing drive and Kai Forbath's 48-yard field goal extended their lead to 38-28. The Cowboys had one last chance to close the gap, but the Redskins defense held tight, most notably when Madieu Williams broke up Dez Bryant's apparent touchdown catch with a great hit in the end zone. In doing so, Washington handed Romo his first-ever loss on Thanksgiving and at home in November (he was 5-0 and 14-0 entering the game, respectively).

With the win, the Redskins improve to 5-6 and only trail their next opponent, the New York Giants, in the NFC East. The two teams meet Dec. 3 at FedEx Field.
