Two of the more intriguing waiver wire victims during yesterday's great preseason purge were Kyle McLaren of the San Jose Sharks and Mark Bell of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
McLaren has some legitimate trade value, despite his cap hit ($2.5 million). Bell, as Ray Slover of The Sporting News reports, is a more curious and ultimately depressing case: A player who went from a drunk driving accident to being a "scrub, a fourth-liner most nights and a frequent scratch." Does anyone out there want a dormant power forward, who is a pending UFA with a $2.167 million cap hit?
Waiver wire fodder, surprises like the Pittsburgh Penguins sending down Janne Pesonen, Brendan Shanahan, Nikolai Khabibulin, last-minute moves for teams like the New York Rangers and the Los Angeles Kings ... so much to discuss as the season finally gets rolling.
Thank the Hockey Gods we have Lyle "Spector" Richardson of Fox Sports and David "Dave" Pagnotta of The Fourth Period to figure it all out for us little brains. Chat starts at 1 p.m. EDT. Bring the funny.
