Puck Daddy's favorite homer announcer, Jack Edwards of New England's NESN, was at it again yesterday during the Boston-Montreal matinee when Shawn Thornton and Alex Henry squared off just over a minute into the game.
While the Canadiens were wearing throwback jersey's that Edwards called "your grandfathers pajamas," he added another memorable call to his illustrious homer-announcing career:
Thank god for YouTube, because in 30 years, when we all look back for classic hockey footage, at least we'll have the wonder that is Jack Edwards and his no-holds barred opinions to sit back and reflect upon.
You've got to love Edwards throwing out the line about Thornton's "goal-scoring resume." While Thornton has 12 career tallies compared to Henry's two, this wasn't exactly Gordie Howe going toe-to-toe with Francois Leroux, even if the Bruins grinder scored what would end up being the game-winning goal in the second period.
For those aspiring play-by-play broadcasters or those who want to follow along and memorize it like the Al Michaels "Do you believe in miracles?" call, fear not as Boston Bruins blog, Caveman Strong, has transcribed the call in all of its homerish goodness.
The Bruins won the game 3-1 and kept their hold on the top spot in the Eastern Conference by 12 points over the Washington Capitals, who dumped the lowly Ottawa Senators 7-4 thanks to an Alex Ovechkin hat trick.
