Danny Espinosa and Michael Morse have been two unlikely sources of offense for the struggling Nationals -- especially when two of the game's best pitchers come to town.
Former Cy Young Award winners Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee surrendered four home runs to the duo in the first two games of a three-game series.
Lee had his worst outing of the season at Nats Park on Tuesday, allowing six earned runs through 5.1 innings and taking the loss. Espinosa hit two home runs in that game while Morse went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
On Monday, Halladay managed to squeak away with a win despite allowing four earned runs through seven innings. Two of those runs were solo shots off the bats of Espinosa and Morse.
Espinosa is leading the Nationals in home runs with 10 and RBIs with 33. Morse will begin to see more regular playing time at first with Adam LaRoche out, and has a great opportunity to make an impact with his hot bat.
Espinosa's May totals of eight home runs and 18 RBIs combined with Morse's six home runs, 15 RBIs and .403 average are very, very good signs for the Nats.
With Werth starting to swing the bat as well, it is only a matter of time before their lumber starts to leave a mark in the standings.
