Ovechkin and Putin: Phone Pals

Ovi interviews are always fun, and when he does them in his native Russian, they can be a treasure trove of awesomeness.

In a translated interview with Argumenti.ru, Ovi revealed this gem:

He has a direct line to Vladimir Putin, who may or may not be the most interesting man in the world.

“But it’s not his cell phone number, but rather his home phone,” he explained. “I call him often. But Putin is never at home. So far I haven’t managed to talk to him yet!”

That's probably because he's out fighting lions with a switch.

Anyway, we would love to get a copy of those voice mails. “Hi Vlad, it’s Ovi…”

That’s kind of a big deal. We’re pretty sure John Wall doesn’t have the Obamas’ home number.

While Ovi has always been good to the media here in D.C., he had some harsh words about certain journalism tactics.

“What’s there to talk about? It’s the same questions again and again,” he said. “I could print out the answers and hand them out to reporters. Especially if a journalist doesn’t like something, he starts twisting the words. Better to stay away from all that. As they say, “Nobody pays attention to the fools, don’t be a fool yourself.”’

Sounds like we need to start thinking of some better questions for our next chat with him.
