Dayton Downs George Mason

Dre Smith scores 22 in loss

Dayton, OH (Sports Network) - Rob Lowery and Marcus Johnson scored 13 points apiece, as the Dayton Flyers defeated the George Mason Patriots, 66-62, in a non-conference bout at UD Arena.

No other Dayton (12-1) player reached double figures, but 11 different Flyers found their way onto the scoring column.

Dre Smith led all scorers with 22 points for George Mason (8-3), while Cam Long chipped in with 15 points.

George Mason knocked down 5-of-11 three-pointers in the first half and grabbed a seven-point lead with less than a minute to play in the half. That was the largest lead for either team in the game.

But the Patriots went cold in the second stanza, shooting just 37 percent from the floor and knocking down 2-of-11 three-pointers, as Dayton turned the momentum in its favor.

The game featured seven ties and 10 lead changes, but the Patriots didn't score a basket for the final 4:41, and the Flyers took advantage.
