Zdeno Chara Gets Standing Ovation From Bruins' Fans

Zdeno Chara gets standing ovation from Bruins' fans originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Sunday night's matchup between the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins marked the first time in 14 seasons that fans at TD Garden witnessed Zdeno Chara skate around in a sweater that didn't consist of black, yellow or white colors.

Chara, who is in his first season with Washington after a storied career in Boston, has returned to the city earlier in the season but Sunday was the first time that fans were allowed inside the arena for a matchup between the Capitals and Bruins in 2021.

Wanting to give him a proper tribute, the Bruins once again shared a video reflecting on Chara's time in Boston. A strong ovation from the limited capacity crowd in attendance followed.

Chara joined the Bruins for the 2006-07 season and spent the next 14 years of his career becoming one of the most beloved players to step on the ice in the city.

Winning a Norris Trophy in 2008-09 and helping the team win the Stanley Cup during the 2010-2011 season, Chara became the heart and soul of the franchise over the years.

Though he's since traded in that uniform for one of a division rival, it's clear that he'll always have fans in Boston.
