Wizards Take a Different Approach With This Season's Team Photo

The 2020-21 NBA season has been unlike any other, and the same could be said for this year's Wizards team photo.Β

Instead of wearing their uniforms and lining up for the traditional team photo taken before the end of the regular season, Washington went with t-shirts with three different messages. Each player's shirt said either "Accountability," "Equality," or "Justice."

The Wizards have made considerable efforts over the last calendar year in the fight against racial injustice, and their latest team photo continues their goal of holding lawmakers accountable. On June 19, 2020 (Juneteenth),Β the Wizards and Mystics joined together in protest against police brutality and racial injustice.

β€œIt’s definitely a statement piece for us,” Bradley Beal said via Wizards.com.Β β€œObviously, we’re a team and we do everything together. We’re still citizens of this country and this world. This is us just choosing a few words that we kind of live by, that we kind of hold ourselves to as men and as teammates. Hopefully, the rest of the world can follow suit and do the same as we try to make it a better place.”

The Wizards also recognized their team's healthcare workers, who've administered daily coronavirus tests dating back to the start of training camp in early December.Β

In another iteration of their team photo, the Wizards had their testers stand-in for a shot with the players.Β
