Wizards Announce Summer League Roster Without Deni Avdija

Wizards announce Summer League roster withouti Avdija originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

The Wizards, after the madness of a five-team trade that brought them a host of players became official, released their 2021 Summer League roster.

The roster has both of the team’s draft choices in Corey Kispert (15th overall) and Isaiah Todd (31st overall). But not on the list was 2020 first round draft choice Deni Avdija, who suffered a fracture in his right ankle late in the season.

As NBC Sports Washington reported, the Wizards were wary of putting him into game action as Summer League play will be taking place a month later than a typical year. Avdija was cleared, but they opted on the side of caution entering his second year in the league.

Still, the Wizards have an interesting roster with their two choices in July’s draft and a few other notable names.

Cassius Winston, a 2020 second round selection, will be on the team. The three-year point guard at Michigan State played 22 games for the Wizards last season. Caleb Homesley will get a chance to impress as well, as he signed a contract with the team in May. Issuf Sanon, the Wizards’ 2018 second round draft pick, will be on the team as well despite the fact that his draft rights were traded in the 2020 season.

The rest of the roster is: Marques Bolden, Aubrey Dawkins, Jaime Echenique, Melvin Frazier, Jordan Goodwin, Dewan Hernandez, Austin Hollins, Jay Huff, Mason Jones, Kyree Walker, Justin Wright-Foreman and Joe Young.

Huff is a local product, out of the University of Virginia. There, he averaged 13 points and 7.1 rebounds in his senior year as a Cavalier.

The Wizards will open Summer League play on Sunday, Aug. 8, against the Pacers and end a week later against the Bucks.
