Why One Bruins Player Has a Lot of Respect for Tom Wilson

Bruins' Kevan Miller on his 'respect' for Tom Wilson originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

It wouldn't be wrong to say the relationship between Tom Wilson and the Boston Bruins is one that doesn't feature a lot of love.

The two have been rivals for years, and a recent matchup in which Wilson delivered a hit on Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo that concussed Carlo and got Wilson suspended for seven games only added fuel to the fire.

Yet while Wilson's style and intensity has earned the respect of Boston defenseman Kevan Miller.

“I respect him a lot. He’s a good player, I respect his game," Miller said to NBC Sports' Camera Guys. "He plays on the edge and I respect that, I enjoy that kind of hockey. I think that’s part of the game and you can see how effective he is.”

Wilson is much more than his big hits, as the eight-year pro has become an instrumental part of Washington's success through his improved offensive play.

That type of success while playing 100 percent every time he's out there has allowed him to gain admiration from the likes of Miller. Still, Miller isn't afraid to keep Wilson in check when it comes to the hits against his teammates.

Prior to the first matchup between the two sides since the hit on Carlo, Wilson and Miller were seen on camera talking pregame. Miller said that he'd keep what was said between the two of them, but that it was good-spirited and friendly.

“Like I said, I respect his game and sometimes it goes a little over, and that’s part of hockey but at the same time we just gotta make sure we keep each other honest," Miller said.

“Like I said our conversation was great, nothing to stir the pot about or anything," he added. "Sometimes those are ones, you know, you have to have. He’d probably do the same.”
