What Morgan Moses Said to Brandon Scherff After Washington's Playoff Loss

What Moses said to Scherff after Washington's playoff loss originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

Over the past six seasons, Morgan Moses and Brandon Scherff have become close friends. The duo has anchored the right side of Washington's offensive line since 2015, playing alongside one another nearly 80 games over that span.

Following Washington's Wild Card playoff loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- and with the 2020 season in the books -- there's a chance Moses and Scherff will no longer be teammates. Scherff, who was named first-team All-Pro last week, is entering free agency and will likely command a large payday this offseason.

Knowing that this past Saturday was potentially the last time Moses will line up next to Scherff, Washington's right tackle had a parting message for the soon-to-be free agent guard.

"[Moses] just came and said, 'That's not the last game I ever played with you,'" Scherff said on Sunday during locker cleanout. "I said, 'I hope it's not either.'"

Over his six seasons with Washington, Scherff has gone from a top-five draft pick to one of the best interior offensive lineman in the NFL. During that span, he's also grown close with Moses, who's been next to him every step of the way.

"Being here for six years, playing with Morgan, we started -- let's see, what was it -- the Dolphins game together, and just seeing how far we've grown and seeing how close we've become, I absolutely love him," Scherff said.

Moses, who was drafted in the third round one year before Scherff arrived in Washington, has been one of the most durable players in the NFL since entering the league. The right tackle has started 96 straight games for Washington, playing in every contest since Scherff became a professional.

"He's a warrior too," Scherff said. "Shoot, I don't know, he's probably got to be close to a 100 straight games played. So just seeing him continue to fight through injuries and push his way through the challenges and just see him grow, along with both of us growing together, it's been amazing."

Although Scherff is a pending unrestricted free agent, there's still hope he'll return to the nation's capital.

Scherff has said multiple times he hopes to stay in Washington and finish his career where he was drafted. Head coach Ron Rivera wants Scherff to stay in Washington, too, as the guard returning would keep the entire starting offensive line from 2020 intact next season.

While there's mutual interest in a return to Washington, the two sides must agree on a deal that both parties are happy with -- something easier said than done.

As for why he wants to stay with the Burgundy and Gold long-term, Scherff feels he has unfinished business with Washington and likes the culture Rivera has built thus far.

"It's just finishing what you started. I like to do that. I love it here," Scherff said. "I'm just looking forward to the offseason and hopefully that I can sign my name to stay here."
