Washington Chief Legal Officer Damon Jones is departing the franchise to join the Los Angeles Dodgers as an assistant general manger, sources told NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay on Tuesday.

The Dodgers later confirmed the move.

While Jones' name may not be a well-known one, he did recently make a major appearance in the club's most recent team name-related video, where he helped explain why options like Wolves or Red Wolves are no longer candidates.

Jones joined the franchise in 2020 and was also an important part of the organization's search for a new stadium. He previously worked for the Washington Nationals for 13 years, among other stops in his professional career.

Mali Friedman — who was the team's Vice President, Deputy General Counsel — will take over Jones' role as Chief Legal Officer. She spent time with the XFL, the Golden State Warriors and the NHL before joining Washington.

The team is slated to announce its new name on Feb. 2, 2022. Its hunt for its next stadium, meanwhile, continues.
