The Washington Football Team has signed free agent wide receiver Adam Humphries, the team announced on Thursday.

Humphries, a six-year veteran, reportedly met with the team earlier in the day.

It's a move for Washington that gives the team some needed help at the slot receiver position on offense. Since entering the league in 2015, Humphries ranks 11th in catches (215) and 18th in receiving yards (2,281) from the slot, according to Pro Football Focus

His recent stats may not be too encouraging, as Humphries missed 13 games over the last two seasons as a member of the Titans and averaged just 30 receptions. Still, in his three prior seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Humphries had at least 50 receptions for 600 yards in each campaign.

With Terry McLaurin as the No. 1 and Curtis Samuel currently set to serve as a versatile No. 2 that can line up in multiple spots, Humphries provides Washington with a more traditional slot option that can work the middle of the field and provide easy targets for whoever is under center. It's something Washington has struggled to have consistently in recent seasons.

Humphries' best season came in 2018 when he had 76 receptions for 816 yards and five touchdowns with the Buccaneers. His quarterback for eight of those games? Ryan Fitzpatrick.
