Trea Turner's Multi-Homer Game a Bright Spot in Nats Loss

Trea Turner's multi-homer game a bright spot in Nats loss originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington

In a 5-2 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Washington Nationals lineup couldn't get much going. Well, everyone except Trea Turner, that is.

The shortstop blasted two solo home runs on Sunday, providing all the offense for Washington in the contest. The first in the bottom of the third, and he added on once again in the bottom of the eighth. It was Turner's sixth multi-homer game of his career, a mark that ties Jayson Werth for seventh all-time in franchise history.

Now with four homers early on in the season, Turner is tied with the likes of Javier Baez and Bo Bichette for the most home runs at his position.

Coming off a phenomenal 2020 season, Turner has built on that momentum to begin 2021. The seventh-year pro is currently hitting ,308 with an OPS of .953. That includes a .429 average in his last five games.

Despite Turner's big day, Washington dropped to 5-8 on the season. A three-game series with the Cardinals beginning Monday night will be the Nationals' next chance to turn things around.
