Yes it's early, and there's a ton of questions still left to be answered, but we have the early 2021 Stanley Cup odds, and it's actually good news for the Capitals given the way their season ended.

According to PointsBet, the Capitals are tied with the Philadelphia Flyers for the fifth-best odds to win the Stanley Cup at +1500, meaning a $100 bet would win you $1,500.

Here's who has higher odds:

  • Colorado Avalanche +800
  • Tampa Bay Lightning +850
  • Vegas Golden Knights +900
  • Boston Bruins +1200
  • Philadelphia Flyers +1500

Now, value of that aside, which is pretty good by the way, the bigger takeaway here is that our friends in the desert have some respect for new head coach Peter Laviolette and the Caps' chances in 2021. This, coming after their second straight first-round exit, and the expected roster turnover given a new coaching staff coming in.

It's certainly not a secret though that the Capitals are in win-now mode, and Laviolette has shown over his coaching career that he can turn teams around very quickly when he takes over.

We may not know what this Capitals roster will look like when the season starts in what's looking to be early 2021, but we do know this is a sign that even with the early losses and let-downs the last two seasons, many still see the Caps as a legit contender, and that should bring a lot of hope for the Peter Laviolette era.
