Last week -- six weeks removed from open-heart surgery -- Capitals goalie Henrik Lundqvist took many by surprise when he shared he was already doing cardio work.
Now six days later, the 15-year NHL veteran is showing that nothing can keep him from playing the sport he loves. On Tuesday, Lundqvist posted to his social media clips of him back on the ice in his goaltending pads getting some work.

Lundqvist also shared some highlights on his Instagram story, stating that the work was mainly about getting his legs and control back under him on the ice. In summation, he noted that "Today was FUN!"
The goalie signed a deal with Washington in the offseason with the expectation that he would serve as the veteran counterpart to Ilya Samsonov, providing depth and experience. However, open-heart surgery forced Lundqvist to announce that he would not participate in the 2021 NHL season.
Still, he's been an incredible source of positivity and resilience through the whole process, taking each moment in stride and working hard to return to the ice.
Now, just nearly seven weeks removed from the surgery, he's made it there.
