After spending the 2020 season as a full-time coaching intern for the Washington Football Team, Jennifer King was named an assistant running backs coach last week.

With the promotion, King made history as the first African-American woman in NFL history to be named an assistant position coach. Following the announcement, another pioneer with the same last name made sure to congratulate King on her accomplishment.

Tennis legend and activist Billie Jean King recorded a message to Washington's new coach, speaking about how proud she was to see another barrier broken in the sports world.

“In a new, history-making job you will inspire generations of children," King said. "Because if you can see it,  you can be it.”

Besides dominating on the tennis court, King has been a long time trailblazer of equal rights and gender equality. With Jennifer King's new position, the ability for women to find more opportunities in professional sports leagues will only continue.

“As our new Vice President Kamala Harris says, she will be the first in her new role, but she won’t be the last," King said. "And the same holds true for you. So, I’m happy for you, keep going for it.”
