Sean Taylor Gifted His Brother the Football From His 2006 Playoff TD

Former Washington Football Team safety Sean Taylor had a knack for finding the football; whether it was making a crushing hit or forcing a turnover, he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

That knack was on full display during Washington's NFC Wild Card victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006, Taylor's first playoff game.

In the first quarter with Washington leading Tampa Bay by a touchdown, No. 21 scooped up a fumble from Buccaneers running back Cardell "Cadillac" Williams and ran untouched down the left sideline for a score, extending Washington's lead to 14. That touchdown would prove to be the difference, as Washington won 17-10.

Taylor's score was a turning point in the game, but also a play his younger brother, Gabe, explained on the Washington Football Talk podcast that he will never forget.

"He scored, and he gave me the ball," Gabe Taylor said. "I was sitting down low. He scored, and I got the ball from him."

Gabe, who was just four years old at the time, said he still has that same football at home.

"It was pretty cool," Gabe Taylor said. "Seeing all the fans go to the game, he'd be the last one out signing autographs. It was a pretty cool moment right there."

That game was, unfortunately, just one of two postseason games Sean Taylor participated in before being tragically killed in 2007.

The safety's legacy still lives on to this day, as numerous defensive backs over the years have tried to emulate Taylor's aggressive and instinctive style.

Gabe, who's now a freshman defensive back at Rice University, is hoping he can continue his older brother's legacy. The Taylor genes run deep, as Gabe said he sees plenty of similarities in their games.

"Just hitting, but like I don’t know. People say I move on the field like him and have instincts," Taylor said.

But for now, Gabe Taylor is focused on carrying on the last name as best as he can.

"I gotta keep going for him," he said. "I just got to put on and keep the legacy going."
