The Wizards returned to their practice facility on Wednesday night expecting to play on Friday against the Bucks, but they were open about their concerns it was too soon to play following five postponed games and little time to get back into basketball shape. Not long after they made their case, the league granted their wish and postponed Friday's game.

Head coach Scott Brooks addressed the media after practice on Thursday and expressed his gratitude for the NBA's decision as he and his team now look to Sunday against the Spurs for what is expected to be their first game in nearly two weeks.

"Going into last night’s practice, I was very concerned, knowing that we haven’t practiced in nine days. The conditioning of our players and the health of our players are extremely important," Brooks said.

"We’re still gonna be shorthanded, but now this gives us a fighting chance. That’s what I want and that’s what our guys want. Now, we can really embrace this opportunity and build on it and kind of rally around each other."

Brooks said he believes NBA commissioner Adam Silver is the best commissioner in all of sports and that he "knew they would do the right thing" and move the game. The Wizards only have eight available players due to a Covid-19 outbreak on their roster and others battling injuries.

The league requires teams to have eight players to play a game. Despite technically having enough to play, the NBA is giving the Wizards a few extra days.

Brooks understands the league didn't have to do them what amounts to a favor, albeit one he feels was necessary.

"Let’s face it, it’s not an easy decision what the league has to do. They’ve had some tough decisions to make over the last couple of weeks. It’s easy for them to say just play the game and get another game on the books. It’s not about that, it’s about the players," Brooks said.

If the Wizards play Sunday, they are still only likely to have eight players. It won't be easy going up against a Spurs team that is 8-6 and fifth in the West. But given the alternative, facing the Bucks on very short notice, Brooks will take that.
